Plan of Study and Courses: Capstone Project Requirement
The capstone project is an integral feature of the doctoral training experience—and it is aimed at preparing graduates of the program for empirically and theoretically-informed leadership roles in advanced clinical practice, clinical supervision, social work education, and practice-oriented research and evaluation. Capstones are projects that have tangible implications for social work practice and serve as an opportunity for the doctoral students to showcase their content expertise and technical skills. Students will have the opportunity to pick between three capstone options (research-focused, practice-focused, or education-focused), depending on their area of interest and career goals. Please note that while the research-focused capstone will most closely resemble a traditional thesis, all capstone projects will require research skills and application. Regardless of which option is selected, the Capstone timeline is the same for all students and extends across three courses: (1) Capstone Proposal, (2) Capstone Implementation, and (3) Capstone Dissemination.
