Hello there.
I go by D. I am a military veteran who holds a bachelor's and master's degree in accounting from Florida Atlantic University. Prior to that, I was a cross-country student athlete at FAU. I was a member of the Veteran Owls, Accounting Scholars Program, Beta Alpha Psi, and Accounting Student Association. My most recent roles include serving as a facilitator at the FAU Challenge Course and as a consultant at the FAU Speaking Center, Activity Planner for a local youth group, and Vice-Chairman of the Military and Veteran Alumni Network. I think writing is just one necessary tool you can have to get your point across. I'll do my best to make our appointments engaging and fun for us both. In my spare time, I like to organize amongst other things. I fancy outdoor and thrill-seeking activities, my current favorite being skydiving.

Elaine Barron Mendelow is the founding director of Heritage Biography International (HBI), a company that enables people to tell their life stories in the form of a recorded video narrative. She has published a book entitled Narrating Diaspora: A Study of Five Contemporary Jewish Auto/Biographies. She has extensive tutoring experience in varied subject areas, running the gamut from extremely reluctant to very eager writers. She looks forward to assisting students with crafting everything and anything: class assignments, resumes, online bios, articles/publicity, graduate school/job applications, dissertations—no writing task is too great or too small!

Hey, I'm Hunter Johnson, and I'm excited to help you with your writing!  You can also find me working as the Fiction editor at the graduate run literary magazine, Swamp Ape Review. I have taught English here for two years, as well as the Introduction to Creative Writing course for undergraduates and the summer Community Workshop serving those outside of the university. Outside of studying and writing, I love to garden, exercise, and play tabletop games (especially Dungeons and Dragons or Warhammer 40,000). I’m willing and able to help with everything from your personal statements for scholarships/grants, ENC1101/1102 assignments, creative works, or helping you with publications. Hi there, my name is Josh (he/him). I work best with Chicago and APA styles, and with academic, theory-based papers, but I’m happy to help with any type of writing assignment—coursework, theses, applications—and any stage of writing—revising, outlining, procrastinating. I’m least adept at fictional works; I'm not very creative. Everybody—good writers and bad—can benefit from a visit to the UCEW—to get help with grammar, to work through a difficult reading or prompt, to discuss a draft, even just to talk about ideas—so I hope I’ll see you around here soon.

Hi! My name is Katie Poquette (she/her). Heavily involved in the sciences, I have worked in a lab at the FAU Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute since 2022 where I research the impacts of amphetamine on neuronal function. I was awarded an undergraduate researcher grant for my work, and I have presented my work at the Wilkes Honors College Symposium. Despite my focus in the sciences, my time at the Honors College has exposed me to academic writing within the humanities as well. Whatever your writing needs are, I look forward to working with you!

Hi all, my name is Leandro Aristeguieta. I have prior professional writing experience as before coming to FAU, I worked for a couple of years as a journalist in my home state of Pennsylvania. I've also done freelance writing, typically longer form articles in various topics.This is my third semester at the writing center and I'm excited to help clients with their writing needs. If you need help with something else, I am willing to work with you as much as possible too.

Marcy is a professional tutor for FAU  who teaches Applied Piano and undergraduate and graduate Music Theory. She was an Executive Vice President, Director of Wealth Management, and Managing Principal for a plethora of Major financial institutions throughout the US, establishing de novo Wealth Management Divisions (private banking, broker/dealer, trust, capital management insurance services and financial planning). She is a Chairman and Industry Expert, judging investment arbitrations for FINRA, and is called in as an Expert Witness for the financial industry at Thomson Reuters. Perhaps most relevant to her work as a writing consultant in the FAU writing center is that she scored a 5.5 on the National GRE Writing Exam, placing her in the 98% for writing.

Hey there! My name is Megan Heron. I have a versatile background, including being an autopsy assistant at one point, so I accept any challenge! My current research is analyzing human skeletal remains to understand care provisions from medieval Transylvania. Hi everyone, I’m Olivia! I also currently teach ENC 1101 and am happy to help writers in any stage of their process whether it be brainstorming or working on a final draft. I am new to both the UCEW and Florida having recently moved from my home state of Minnesota. My interests outside of writing include animal watching (specifically lizards with my cat), spending time outside in whatever nature South Florida has to offer and waiting for my first winter-free year ever. Phil

Phil was an instructor in the Urban Scholars Program and taught Composition at The University of Massachusetts, Boston. For nine years, he was an Adjunct Instructor of English at Florida Atlantic University, teaching sections of ENC 1101 and 1102. Phil has been published in major newspapers and magazines nationwide including the Boston Globe, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Columbus (OH) Citizen Journal, and Parklander magazine. Currently he is writing website copy for Signature Florida Realty based in Delray Beach. He continues to offer his knowledge and Focus in the Teaching of Writing as a tutor of English throughout South Florida where he has extensive experience working with undergraduate and graduate students.

Hi! My name is Ty. I am from Fort Pierce, Florida, and I have been a writing tutor for over two and a half years at Indian River State College. Although I have mostly worked in writing for English and literature, I also have experience writing across domains in philosophy and social science.
