Certificate Programs
Our certificate programs offer specialized training that help students build skills that are attractive to employers and graduate schools. The College of Science offers multiple undergraduate and graduate certificates across a variety of disciplines.
Undergraduate Certificates
Actuarial Science
The certificate in actuarial science enables students to pursue a course of study relevant to actuarial science. The required curriculum provides students with necessary mathematical foundations of the field and exposes them to practical applications relevant to their chosen area of specialization. Each course must be completed with a grade of at least C-.
Biotechnology
The Biotechnology Certificate Program is open to all FAU Biology and Chemistry students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher and all students with a Bachelors degree in Biology or Chemistry regardless of the institution. This program is designed to encourage and recognize students preparing for a career in biotechnology. In addition to the requirements for the bachelors' degree sought, students must complete the following courses or the equivalent with the indicated minimum grade.

Environmental Sciences
The Environmental Studies Certificate Program allows students to explore environmental issues through a broadly-based interdisciplinary program. The program is designed to: introduce students to the major environmental issues facing our rapidly-changing society; to provide in-depth analysis in several areas of study, including such vital concerns as environmental health, environmental ethics, management strategies for our global and local natural resources, environmental planning and policies, and environmental economics. Students who already hold a baccalaureate degree may pursue the certificate as a non-degree-seeking student, or in conjunction with a second bachelor's degree. All courses taken in the curriculum may be applied toward other general and specific graduation requirements, and courses are taken to fulfill other requirements may be applied to the certificate curriculum.
Geographic Information Systems
The Department of Geosciences offers undergraduates a Certificate in Geographic Information Systems and an Advanced Certificate in Geographic Information Systems. Departmental majors or other students who complete the programs with a grade of "C" or better in each course are entitled to the GIS Certificates. Students should consult with their departmental advisor or another faculty member about registration for these programs. Students may use these courses in the completion of a major.
Neuroeconomics Graduate Certificate
Neuroeconomics is a field of study investigating the processes underlying choice behavior by applying formal mathematical and computational models of decision making to the analysis and interpretation of neuroimaging data. The Neuroeconomics Certificate aims to provide students with the tools needed to analyze, interpret, and apply neuroscientific data in order to understand real-world decisions. Available to master’s and doctoral students, the program is administered through the College of Science’s Dean’s Office.
Pharmaceutical Technology Certificate Program
The Pharmaceutical Technology Certificate Program (PTCP) combines new drug development courses with existing analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and organic chemistry courses that are beneficial for industry related job opportunities. This is a 14 credits certificate program. PTCP is for advanced undergraduate students who completed upper level courses and, who aim to pursue a career in biopharmaceutical industry. Students will gain understanding of drug development life cycle from discovery to market launch; regulatory requirements, pharmacokinetics, formulation and analytical development.
Statistics
The certificate program in statistics enables students to pursue an interdisciplinary course of study in statistics. The required curriculum provides students with necessary statistical foundations of the field and exposes them to practical applications relevant to their chosen area of specialization.
Graduate Certificates
Cyber Security
Cybercrime-related issues especially impact the State of Florida because a significant part of the state's economic development comes from tourism, international banking and high-tech industries. The number of scientists, engineers, and experts needed with special skills in cyber security exceeds the number available. The Cyber Security certificate provides opportunities for graduate students to expand their knowledge and skills to meet the needs of the cyber security field. Due to their extensive expertise and facilities, the departments of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Mathematical Sciences have jointly designed the Cyber Security certificate. This 12-credit certificate program has two tracks: Computer Science (CS) and Mathematics (Math).
Environmental Restoration
The Environmental Science Program offers the Environmental Restoration certificate for graduate students who wish to pursue an environmental restoration position upon graduation, professionals looking to increase their knowledge base and/or advance professionally and anyone considering becoming a Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner (CERP).
Geographic Information Systems
The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) certificate for graduate students is offered jointly by the Department of Geosciences and the School of Urban and Regional Planning in the College of Design and Social Inquiry. Graduate students who complete the program below with a grade of "B" or better in each course are entitled to receive the certificate. Students should consult with the director of the GIS Center or their graduate advisor about registration for this program. Students shall use the courses below to complete the certificate.
Certificate in Medical Physics for Ph.D. Holders
The Department of Physics offers a Certificate in Medical Physics for Ph.D. holders. This certificate is a 15 credit hours program offered by a CAMPEP-accredited program (Commission Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs). It is designed to provide the essential didactic elements of medical physics to Ph.D. holders seeking to pursue an alternative pathway to medical physics residency. It is intended to enable individuals with a doctoral degree in physics or a related discipline to meet the didactic requirements needed to enter a CAMPEP-accredited residency program. Students enrolled in the Certificate program may also register for Part I of the American Board of Radiology board exam in Medical Physics.
Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Health Professions
The Pre-Health Professions Certificate Program at Florida Atlantic University was designed to prepare you for your future career as a health care provider through challenging pre-requisite coursework, unique medical opportunities, and comprehensive advising and support. We welcome those interested in changing careers or those that were always inspired to pursue a health related career.
Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program in Chemistry (PREPChem) Certificate
PREPChem program is intended for recent college graduates with a bachelor's degree and who have the desire to further build their knowledge and research skills in preparation for graduate and/or professional school. The program requires students to take traditional graduate classes in chemistry (9 credits), and undergraduate/graduate classes in fields of artificial intelligence (AI) (6 credits). AI is being used more frequently by chemists to perform various tasks and is becoming an integral part of modern drug discovery processes.
Remote Sensing
The Department of Geosciences offers graduate students a certificate in Remote Sensing. Graduate students who complete the required courses with a grade of "B" or better in each course will earn the certificate program. Students should consult with the director of the GIS Center or their graduate advisor about registration for this program. Students shall use the courses below to complete the certificate.
