Find a Provider
FAU CAPS provides short-term counseling and psychological services to current Florida Atlantic students. Sometimes student concerns are best addressed through longer-term counseling, students are hoping to be seen more frequently than we can see them, or are looking to begin counseling more quickly than we can get them in. In these situations, we recommend that students seek therapy in the community.
Below is a list of therapists and psychiatrists in the community with a variety of specializations that students may find helpful. Please note that we do not endorse any of these providers and you are encouraged to do research to determine if they are the right fit for you.

Tips to Find the Right Therapist for You:
- Check with your insurance company and get a list of providers who are covered under your plan
- Visit the therapist's website or look them up on-line
- Speak with the therapist on the phone (there is no cost for this and therapists should be willing to briefly speak with you to explain their services)
- Schedule an initial appointment and see how you feel with the therapist (there likely will be a cost for this)
- It is OK to "shop" around a bit for a therapist that works well for you
Helpful Questions to Ask a Therapist:
- Are you licensed as a psychologist or therapist? How many years have you been practicing psychology?
- What is your area of expertise (e.g., experience with a specific type of client or age group)?
- Do you have experience with (whatever you want help with) and how have you worked with it?
- What is your approach to therapy? What kinds of treatments do you use?
- Do you accept my insurance? How much would my sessions cost?
If you have a difficult time finding a therapist on your own you may schedule a consultation at CAPS and we can provide guidance on the process.
