Undergraduate Consultant Opportunity
Want to be a consultant with The Speaking Center?
We accept applications for new peer tutors to begin each semester. Positions are available to undergraduate students through the following tracks:
- Capstone Requirement for Communication Majors
- Interdisciplinary/Work Study for Any Major (IDS:3949)
Peer consultants are expected to communicate effectively in public, interpersonal and group settings, show leadership qualities, take an interest in teaching and learning, and demonstrate professionalism.
Applicants must:
- completed SPC-2608 or a similar course that shows a strong aptitude for public speaking.
- demonstrate strength in communication skills and hold an interest in how communication works.
- be committed to working with us for at least two (2) semesters.
Overall GPAs will be considered, a minimum overall GPA of 2.8 is required.
To apply, expect to submit the following:
- a cover letter, explaining your interest in becoming a consultant with the center.
- a current resume.
- a faculty reference letter
- 6-8 hours that you are available every week of the term.
After successful training, consultants will meet with peers, host talks, give center talks, and attend staff meetings/trainings. Contact us with any questions or stop by and visit us during the posted hours.
