Creative Nonfiction Writers—Anderson, Bucak, Furman, Precanico, and Sims—Earn Recognition

Congratulations to our Creative Nonfiction faculty and students on receiving recognition from Pushcart Prize, Best American Essays, and Best American Science and Nature Writing!

Professor Stephanie Anderson was recognized with a Special Mention in Pushcart Prize 2025 for her essay "Disturbance" in Ninth Letter. "Disturbance" also won the First Place 2022 Regeneration Literary Award.

Professor Papatya Bucak recieved a Notable Mention in Best American Essays 2024 for "How to be Half Mixed Everything Both Sort Of," published in Joyland.

Professor Andrew Furman's essay, "Fox," which appeared in Terrain, received a Notable Mention in Best American Science and Nature Writing 2024.

Instructor and MFA alum Joseph Precanico (writing as Joseph Dante) earned a notable mention in Best American Essays 2024 for "If Men Had Wings" in Salamander.

MFA student Wilson Sims recieved a Special Mention in Pushcart Prize 2025 for his Longreads essay, "Unknown Costs."
